World’s Craziest Hiking Trail - El Caminito del Rey

Words can not describe how nuts that hiking trail is. Ah the ground, how I underappreciate thee. My legs and knees are weak all over just from watching this, but I’m also the type of person who gets weak from driving along two lane cliffside highways. Like the ones along the California Coastline Route 101. If you’re thinking of doing something special and memorable… this is the place to do it. Can you even image walking the trail while recording a video like this guy?

If you’re adventurous or just plain crazy and want to go on this hike for your next vacation, here are some details. The location is in Southern Spain in an area called El Chorro. The walkway or trail is called El Caminito del Rey. (it means The King’s little pathway) Beginning construction in 1901 and finished in 1905, the walkway was created to provide a path between the two dams that it connects. The path allowed the transport of people and materials between the two dams.

As you can see, the walkway is not maintained. Most of the railing is gone. The cement path has holes in it and along several sections, only a rusted steel beam exists. Although there is a safety wire along the most of the trail, several people have lost their lives by falling. Even though the local government has closed all the entrances, people still find a way in.
