Overall: 9.5/10

Summary

Acting: 9.5/10
Plot: 8/10
Interest: 9.5/10
Rewatchability: 10/10

Oh man what to say about this movie. I actually want to go watch it again right now instead of writing this. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a movie I’ve always wanted to watch ever since I saw the commercial 2 years ago, but faded from my mind until I was recently reminded about it. My expectations for the movie was nada because I didn’t ever hear anyone talking about the film and the commercial had long since faded from my mind. I was totally free to view in film in any light I pleased.

Acting: 9.5/10
Robert Downey Jr., Val Kilmer, and Michelle Monaghan all did great acting in the film which I believe is what makes the film so likable. (the extremely well written dialog helped) Big props to Robert Downey Jr. playing Harry Lockhart. While Val Kilmer and Michelle Monaghan’s acting were both good, Robert Downey Jr. playing Harry Lockhart was definitely the star of the show. His acting was truely great. Every character in the film is very likable, even the bad guys. It doesn’t play on the bad-guy-gets-what-he-deserves thing, so likable characters work for the movie.

Plot: 8/10
The plot was not the strongest point in the movie. Of course it has to be there, but it’s the characters, dialog, and humor that make the movie what it is. There are a few twists and turns to it, but if those were taken out, it wouldn’t detract from the film. You might have to rewatch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang to completely get the plot (not a bad thing).

Interest: 9.5/10
Eyes glued to the screen the entire movie. A few slow parts, but usually for comedic purposes. The film is based in Hollywood and I believe it was trying to show parts of the Hollywood business as it actually it. (not sure since I don’t know the Hollywood business, but it seemed very much like it) If you actually watch the film, look for the Flicka scene to see what I mean by this. Anyway, this added element of movie, TV, and hollywood insider stuff in addition to everything else kept me interested during the slower scenes.

Rewatchability: 10/10
Like I said, I wanted to go rewatch it instead of write this. There are a few parts in the plot that make the film worth watching again, but mainly I want to rewatch it for the laughs. The type of humor that they use in the film is the type I love the most. The shows and movies that I can relate back to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang are Arrested Development and 30 Rock.

Bottom line: Watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and don’t come back until you do.
