Birds Take Down Engines, Forces US Airways Flight 1549 To Emergency Land In The Hudson River
A new video has emerged of US Airways Flight 1549’s emergency landing in New York City’s Hudson river. The videos were shot from the piers’ security cameras and give the best views yet of the plane’s emergency landing in the Hudson. You can see how amazingly smooth the emergency landing was. Once again, I must commend Sully, the pilot of the flight 1549, for a job very well done.

If you’ve been busy or living under a rock the past few days, here’s a small recap of what happened to this epic flight.
US Airways Flight 1549 was a flight bound from New York City to Charlotte, North Carolina. The Airbus A320 type plane took off from LaGuardia Airport and minutes into the flight, a flock of birds flew into the planes’ engines and knocking them both out. The pilot, Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III, realising that he could not make it back to any nearby airports in time, made an emergency decision to try to land the plane in the Hudson River in order to limit damage and lost of life.
Well it turns out that the decision was the good one. Sully smoothly guided the plane down into the river and all 155 passagers survived the emergency landing. Due to the cold water and freezing temperatures, there were about 50 cases of hypothermia, bruises and other minor injuries and one person was admitted to the hospital with two broken legs.
Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III, the pilot who guided the plane down to safety, is being called a hero all over the world. Many of his close friends say that all of his life’s training prepared him for this moment.
“He is the consummate pilot,” his wife, Lorrie Sullenberger, told the New York Post. Sullenberger is an U.S. Air Force Academy grad who flew F-4 fighter planes while in the Air Force, she said. “He is about performing that airplane to the exact precision to which it is made.”
Sullenberger is an airline safety expert who has consulted with NASA and others, according to his resume posted on the Internet. He has 40 years of experience, 29 with US Airways, and hold masters’ degrees in public administration and industrial psychology.
I don’t think this plane could have had a better pilot in the seat. Along with his efforts to bring the plane down safely, after he landed, he double checked the sinking plane for any remaining passagers before exiting himself. Some people are calling the event a miracle, but there was nothing miraculous about it. It was Sully’s training and fast thinking that brought the plane down safely.
The plane itself is being craned out of the Hudson river as we speak. It will most likely be dried out and be put back in service after everything checks out. Of course, the engines will have to be replaced, but due to the terrific job Sully did in landing the plane, the rest of the plane should be in working order.

Once again Sully, great job. You are truely a hero.
