As Seen On TV ShamWow
The Awesome ShamWow Infomercial
You following me camera guy? Do you even know what you’re watching? Basically kind of a big deal.
…And for the other 50% of the Cola you apply a little pressure-BOINK-and it’s gone!
Made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff.
So many awesome points, how could you not buy it!?!?
Infomercial Review
The informercial itself is low budget as if you watch closely you can see some scenes get cut and moved around. For example, during the carpet scene, first you can see the overfill cola making a puddle under the carpet and after Vince says, “We’re going to do this in real time.” (yea it true because he says it) all the cola spillage is gone. Another part I found hilarious was when there’s a bunch of people saying how good the ShamWow is, but they’re holding an unopened ShamWow in their hands. (kinda like they just bought the very first one they ever owned from the ShamWow booth behind them maybe?)
I never thought of this myself while watching these kind of commercials, but the hosts do tend to talk loudly don’t they? Other folks were saying that Vince (the guy hosting the ShamWow informercial) acts pretty much the same as Great Ol’ Shouting Billy Mays. (mastermind hawker of OxiClean, Orange Glo, Kaboom, Engrave It, Handy Switch, iCan, Mighty Mend-It, Mighty Putty, Hercules Hook, AwesomeAuger, Steam Buddy, Zorbeez, Big City Slider Station, and The Ding King) Note: I’m gonna try to get a look at some of these Billy Mays products later on.
Product Review
Wow. Yep that’s what I said when I first saw the ShamWow informercial a few days ago. It looked like a freaking liquid magnet. I was actually thinking I might buy it. So I go online to check out what there was out there about ShamWow. So I did some research and found…
MORE LIKE SCAMWOW!
Ah, I had to say it. You knew it was coming. Anyway, ShamWow works but, not close to as well as it does in the informercial.
Surprised? probably not. Most if not all ‘as seen on TV’ items never work as well as they do on the informercial. But ShamWow does work as a regular old liquid absorbing orange cloth thing. Remind me if I’m getting too technical here. Overall I would say it works as well as any other thick piece of cloth used for absorbing liquid of that size.
As always: We don’t have a rating system for As Seen On TV products. It’s either a buy or no buy. Although all these As Seen On TV products say ‘30 Day Money Back Guarantee’, their customer service will run circles around you. Always assume you cannot return products you buy from TV commercials or infomercials.
Bottom line: don’t buy. It’s junk. Save your money and, if you want something like ShamWow, go buy some camp towels. They’re made out of the same material, viscose rayon, as ShamWow is made from. Here are some towels sold at Coleman for $2.99.
On another note, if ShamWow Vince looks AND sounds like the scout from Team Fortress 2. Complete with the headset and Brooklin accent. Coincendence? yea probably.

Justsaver,
The Shamwow editing is tricky, but you can catch what they do.
In the opening scene the first white towel soaks up the bulk of the water, then he uses the shamwow to clean up the almost evaporated remainder. …while he talks about how well it absorbs. great trick if you don’t think about what he is actually doing.
Also, the cola shots. After drowning the carpet in cola and then showing you the backside, the edit goes to a different piece of carpet with considerably less cola on the carpet. Notice the table no longer has cola on it. Another great edit… you are thinking the drowned carpet is the same.
