americanidol American Idol Season 8 Debut - Kansas City Auditions: Bikini Girl

Wednesday night, the American Idol Debut drew in over 30 million viewers as they watched the start of the new season. We got to see the new judge, Kara DioGuardi, make her first impression on the show. Also, we also got to see American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, try to highfive a blind guy. Yea Ryan smooth. Real smooth.

The most interesting moment of the night definitely came from the Bikini Girl. Sorry ladies, but it’s the truth. Katrina Darrell, who will now be known as ‘Bikini Girl’ (for better or for worse), showed up for the audition in a very small orange bikini. She impressed the male judges with her assets singing, but failed to impress Kara DioGuardi, who sang a few lines for Bikini Girl to show her how it’s done. The votes went right down gender lines, with Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson voting for her. Needless to say, she got her golden ticket. This just in: guys like girls in bikinis.

Stripper Idol sued by American Idol

Speaking of bikinis (or lack of them), a few weeks ago, FremantleMedia North America, owner of the American Idol franchise, filed a law suit against a strip club based in Austin, Texas, for holding weekly “Stripper Idol” contests. Sounds like someone’s jealous they didn’t think of it first; I guess Bikini Idol will have to do. FremantleMedia is sueing over a trademark violation saying that people may think that the TV show sponsors the event and ruin the show’s reputation. The Austin based strip club, Palazio Men’s Club, disagrees.

The club’s managers say their contest doesn’t resemble the TV show. In “Stripper Idol,” the women have 60 seconds to dance topless, then are ranked by audience applause to win $500.

“Defendants are infringing upon FremantleMedia’s trademark rights,” the lawsuit alleges. “There is a substantial likelihood that consumers will be confused, misled or deceived as to the sponsorship … of the defendants’ stripper talent contest.”

The clubs’ mangers says they would change the logo if they had to, but they don’t think that it should be necessary. “I didn’t know you could copyright an oval.”
